Introduction: Leadership Vision
From the wide study of leadership and business, I can conclude that I am the type of leader who guides the subordinates in meeting their personal and organisational goals. I believe that I have the strength and personal will to influence my subordinates’ decisions and thoughts. Honesty, truth, inspiration, insights, and love of purpose form my leadership pillars (Millar & Poole 2011). In my capacity as a manager in a department at the Abu Dhabi Airport, my leadership vision will be including all stakeholders in the pursuit of the firm’s objectives.
As a leader, I have to develop a transformational system of leadership to realise success in different situations. This broad charismatic character educes employees’ interests, thus motivating them to go beyond the set targets of the organisation at the expense of their self-interests (Lexa 2008). Moreover, as various cultures perceive communication skills differently, I will have to learn the perceptions of all cultures and the symbols that they attach to every aspect of communication.
Personal Inspiration
The CEO of Emirates Airline His Highness Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and the Microsoft Company’s CEO, Bill Gates are some great leaders who have influenced my understanding of effective leadership based on the application of ethical aspects. Bill Gates believed that effective leadership does not suggest one particular way of managing an organisation or people within it. Scholars have steered clear of imposing any leadership style as a modicum of a proven methodology.
Business leaders, therefore, need to align their leadership capacities and to moderate their style of leadership in a way that matches the developmental paradigms of the markets they embrace (Levenstein 1981). Establishing and building upon these leadership traits at a tender age, Bill Gates ended up transforming the Microsoft world in a way no one could ever have imagined. Bill Gates’ choice of leadership was the one meant to lead the people and the Microsoft Company to high performance and broaden market appeal. In guiding the Microsoft Company to become a giant firm in the tech industry, Bill Gates made me understand the dynamics of effective leadership from the aspect of adhering to values and norms of an organisation.
Therefore, as a leader, I inspire my subordinates and even engage them in training to develop their talents for their personal growth and growth of the company. I feel it awkward to leave others to lead me, as the leadership skills that I have acquired in my capacity as a police officer at the HR department together with my inspiration from the great CEOs make me believe that I should not be a follower, but a leader.
Colleagues’ Feedback
During my tenure as a police officer in the Abu Dhabi GHQ in the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates from 2005 to 2011, I have been able to meet challenges from the HR department touching on leadership aspects. Their compliments and corrections have made me know my strengths and weaknesses in leadership. At one instance, my colleagues commended me for investigating and bringing to book some employees at the ministry who had planned to take some equipment from the offices. They praised me for my strong desire to instil or foster truth, transparency and accountability in the operations at the Ministry. If I had allowed the employees to leave with the Ministry’s properties, unethical culture could have set in, thus encouraging corruption and misuse of the public office.
Leadership Skills for Development
Inclusive skills and competencies are vital for effective leadership in all entities; it makes employees feel valued and needed for the success of the firm (Rausch 2005). In my MBA study, I aspire to learn effective communication skills, commitment, confidence, and the skill to be accommodative. A committed and confident leader achieves organisational goals within the specified timeline (Hyman 1980). The study will enable me to become a truly effective leader who leads from the front by guiding employees on the path to pursue.
Conclusion
The transformation will be a core pillar of my leadership styles at the Abu Dhabi Airport to remain competitive in the current dynamic and globalised market. Efficient leadership that accepts vital changes records high performance. In sum, I will consider all factors that affect employees’ outputs to adopt an effective option that fits the majority and brings the maximum output to customers and other stakeholders.
