This essay aims to provide a brief analysis of a scholarly article titled “Influence of organizational culture on organizational effectiveness: The mediating role of organizational communication” by Gochhayat, Giri, & Suar (2017). The article’s title is appropriate to the focus of the study as it clearly and briefly highlights what the study will cover. That is, investigating how a solid or weak organizational culture influences organizational effectiveness in Indian technical education (Gochhayat et al., 2017). This paper argues that a good research paper should constitute clearly stated elements that are relevant to the topic.

The problem identified is a knowledge gap in the amount of research that highlights the relationship between the topics in question. Thus, the study explores this relationship through organizational communication as the mediator. The problem is not clearly stated as it only displays the research gap. It could be made clearer by describing the problem in detail in a paragraph of its own that fully describes what issue the research seeks to solve. It also does not have a theoretical rationale since no theories were employed. The problem studied in the research is significant in providing practical knowledge to guide organizations in matters concerning the organization’s culture.

Additionally, the article entails a review that covers the various topics that the research aims to investigate, making it relevant to the study. The literature review is distributed into four sections detailing the three main issues covered by the topic (Gochhayat et al., 2017). Each section entails different views on what other researchers discovered concerning the topics. The existing literature discussed shows that a good organizational culture leads to a better organization which in turn affects the effectiveness of the organization. Therefore, it suggests that the effect of a good culture can pass through organizational communication and predict the firm’s effectiveness.

The research used quantitative methods to carry out the study. The instrument used to answer the problem was a questionnaire survey in person and online through a Google form. The research also utilized a randomly selected sample population from the heads of specific institutions in India and two of their subordinates (Gochhayat et al., 2017). In addition to this, the study had two clearly stated research objectives: testing the direct effect of organizational culture (OCL) on organizational effectiveness (OE) (Gochhayat et al., 2017). Contrary to this, the second hypothesis was to determine the indirect impact of OCL on OE through organizational communication (OCM).

The study results portrayed a positive relationship between all dimensions of OCL and OCM with OE. Moreover, the data showed that OCL could predict OCM and OE while OCM only predicts OE. The tests revealed that the OCM partially mediates between OCL and OE. Measuring its mediating capability, OCM was found to have a rate of 53% (Gochhayat et al., 2017). These results make it easier to understand the existing relationship between OCL, OE, and OCM. The effect of both variables means that an organization with a strong culture has better communication which enhances the OE.

Moreover, no probable sources of error that could affect the study results were mentioned. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) technique was used to analyze the data. This technique was appropriate as the study used a sufficient sample size required by CFA. On the other hand, the research faces certain limitations to its success, including the biasness of the self-reported responses to the questionnaire. The responses were collected from the directors and associate professors. Also, the assessment was done once, and the culture gradually changed. This affects the validity of the research if the evaluation is not conducted continuously.

The researcher concludes that a stronger OCL indirectly leads to OE through OCM. This is presented through one paragraph subtitled conclusion. The data presented supports this conclusion as the researcher does not overgeneralize the findings. Instead, they provide just enough to summarize the results of the study. The results and conclusions presented in this study can be applied in the field of business as every organization in this field requires a solid OCL to ensure it performs effectively through OCM.
