POST 1
Global health is about ensuring a healthy future for everyone regardless of where they live, it’s based on research and practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equality in health for all people worldwide, global health makes sense of the patterns of existing and emerging health problems across time and the globe, with the understanding that their determinants and assessing their impacts on health, quality of life, morbidity, mortality, and societies and economics. Public health plays a critical role in the promotion of health, prevention of disease, and empowerment of individuals to manage illness and disabilities, every scientific finding, awareness campaign, and new policy has the potential to positively impact the lives of millions of people around the world. Global health is an issue because man-made and natural disasters create refugee populations with immediate and long-term health problems (i.e.) climate change and not enough access to food and safe water, these are global problems that can affect people’s health (MPH online, 2023).
Global health emphasizes transnational health issues, determinants, and solutions, it involves many disciplines within and beyond the health sciences and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, it is a synthesis of population-based prevention with individual-level clinical care. Global health focuses on health issues and determinants which affect many countries (i.e.) COVID-19 which crippled the whole world, it travels between countries and spread rapidly, it affected food, travel, and healthcare, and mortality rates soared the World Health Organization was heavily active in this global pandemic. On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization declared an outbreak of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on March 11 WHO declared a pandemic (WHO, 2022).
Global health aims to promote research, testing, policy-making, and practice in health worldwide, it’s mission is to promote health and a healthy lifestyle for all human beings, and it is considered a guiding principle, a branch of health sciences, and a specialized discipline within the broader arena of public health and medicine. A key concept in global health is global impact which is any issue that has a global impact on the health of humankind, including health system issues that will or have affected a large number of people or countries across the world (i.e.) the global epidemic of HIV/AIDS (PubMed, 2020).
As per the second part of this assignment, none of my classmates selected the opposite statement, I stand in agreement that global health is a separate discipline and it does require training and collaboration for innovative studies and research methods. While public health professionals are more active at the grassroots level, those in global health are more concerned with healthcare challenges and policy issues that span national borders. My concern today is whether global health step into action with the war in Hamas? The aftershocks of the war will damage any efforts to address global health problems that will arise, the damage will most likely go beyond war zones maiming minds and bodies, medical facilities being destroyed, hospitals and clinics infrastructure weakened, and batter social determinants of health. The political determinants of global health will make the Israeli-Hamas conflict even worse as COVID-19 still lingers worldwide amongst the ongoing effects of climate change (Think Global Health, 2023).

POST 2
Due to the availability and ease of international travel and the nature of infectious diseases, recent studies show that a disease can travel from a small remote area to any large city in any part of the world in less than two days (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d). This information is astounding and highlights how quickly a disease outbreak anywhere in the world can affect everywhere in the world. Because the global population is made up of multiple communities in cities, towns and countries around the world, global health is viewed as an extension of public health (Chen et al., 2020). Global health requires similar training and research methods as public health. Both disciplines identify and deal with issues that affect the health of a population (Chen et al., 2020). Both global and public health seek solutions to public health issues and aid in research and the development of policies that mitigate the problems (Chen et al., 2020). What sets global health aside as a unique branch of public health is that global health focuses on the global impact that these issues, the policies and their solutions have (Chen et al., 2020). Unfortunately, in recent years the world has experienced just how easily a disease outbreak in one part of the world can quickly spread to cause massive amounts of illness and death worldwide. Both the Ebola outbreak in 2018 and the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 have affected societies’ views on the consequences of a global pandemic and the role of global health preparedness. Yimer et al., (2022) note that pandemics do not respect the borders of countries and global health response should not be limited to borders either.

POST 3
Before studying public health my definition of poverty was the lack of functioning in society as a result of the lack of basic human needs, choices, and opportunities to a better lifestyle. Households, individuals, and communities that are powerless, vulnerable, and depreciated. In my opinion, the emphasis of poverty reduction measures should be on raising the supply of necessities (i.e.) education, healthcare facilities, and food; reducing overpopulation, and increasing the personal income of those living in society. Poverty is the state or condition in which people or communities lack financial resources and essentials for a minimum standard of living, making it hard to achieve their basic human needs. People and families who live in poverty may go without proper housing, clean water, healthy food, and medical attention (Investopedia, 2023).
According to the relational definition of poverty, people lack the least supply of cash required to sustain an adequate standard of living in comparison to others in society.
Spiritually poverty is the lack of absence of obtaining spiritual matters, the incapacity to acquire desired things that are out of reach. Wealthy people can be spiritually impoverished which can lead them to self-destruction, some are poor because of selflessness and hopelessness, forming a relationship with God will give you peace of mind that will help you to elevate yourself, we can say that the solution to poverty would be a comprehensive approach based on the spiritual meaning of poverty. When designing a program to reduce poverty, it is important to look at all elements of the definition of poverty. A solution or health program that incorporates a relational definition of poverty is the provision of essential healthcare services by the government or a charitable trust to the poor who cannot afford these services which donates to a lack of appropriate income (Merriam-Webster, n.d.).
