what i wrote: In Barry Blitt’s political cartoon “yearning to breathe free,” hHe is implying that America is not welcoming our immigrant children as they it should be. The cartoon illustrates young, afraid, sweet-looking children hiding in Lady Liberty’s robes. Lady Liberty is a significant symbol of America being a country of immigrants, and her plaque famously states, “’Give me your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” ‘ The illustrator uses logos rhetoric to explain thatin portraying this significant symbol of America, which indicates that America should allow the tired and poor in huddled masses into the country freely. He also uses pathos to appeal to the audience’s emotions, using beautiful children to represent the huddled masses that the artist feels should be welcomed into America.
teachers feedback about last line Yes! I’d consider expanding this a bit. What sorts of expressions do the children have on their faces? What sorts of emotions does the audience feel?
I’d consider integrating this as a separate paragraph to meet the multiple paragraph requirements—this is a nice start, but could be a bit more thorough in terms of your analysis.

Helpful Details to Consider:
The first thing you should consider is the date this cartoon was published (in 2018).
The second helpful resource is the where the cartoon gets it’s name, which is a quote from the poem inscribed on the bottom of the Statue of Liberty: https://poets.org/poem/new-colossus?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw65-zBhBkEiwAjrqRMEZg5H5ik_Dn6MIIJrChOPNGUNahEz5-KZcQKC0zbBEOiZQBFf5KsRoCiYQQAvD_BwELinks to an external site.
Here’s an article about the poem’s meaning and the symbolism of the statue, which was published in the same year this cartoon was (and therefore sheds some light on the topics in question during this time): https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2018/01/the-story-behind-the-poem-on-the-statue-of-liberty/550553/Links to an external site.
It may also help to do some light research into the history of the Statue of Liberty and its symbolism, which is relevant as it’s included in the cartoon.
